10 for Tuesday: Purse Peak

A peak inside my purse reveals the usual suspects.

1. Bunny fruit snacks, my son loves them and shhh, I do too.
2. A hair clip. These things are really everywhere, my chair, my desk- you name it.
3. A pretty pen. True story: I was trying to endorse a check and I could not find one "routine color" but pink, green and turquoise I have an abundance.
4. The Body Shop lip gloss. I love these. They are shiny without being sticky.
5. Accessories. Earrings (check), bracelets (check)
6. Hand sanitizer.
7. Epi-pens. Allergic reactions don't scare me :)
8. A party invitation. Really? Why does this kid have such a hot social life?!
9. My planner. I have two and I am using them!
10. Stamps. I love writing just because notes and sending them to my friends and family. Having stamps handy makes that so much easier.

So what cool things are lurking in your purse?

Trayvon Martin

this case.
breaks my heart.
so utterly senseless.
so young.
i weep for the loss.
a mother's pain.
all of the things he will
not be.
all of the boys, young men
or men
who met his same fate.
the calendar changes and
yet so many things
are the same.
i weep because someday
i will have to have the talk
with my son.
answer them.
keep your hands visible.
be agreeable.
no mother should have
to raise her son with that fear.
no boy should have to grow
to manhood
burdened.

Today my son and I wore hoodies. Yes, they are a normal part of our lives. We live in a place that usually sees about 6 months when wearing a hoodie is very routine. And yet since Trayvon Martin was gunned down for wearing a hoodie and carrying a bag of skittles and an iced tea, hoodies have become a statement. Wear a hoodie in support of an international cry for justice. We took part in an event hosted by a local photographer where she is graciously taking pictures of people wearing a hoodie. I will post a picture when she shares them.  In the meantime I am praying for his family and hoping that some meaningful change will happen as a result of this tragedy.

Ten for Tuesday: My life, post child

So my life pre-child is certainly different then my life post-child. I easily have a bunch but I will try to keep this post to ten :)

1. Today we were painting and when we finished my son requested to put his work on a drying rack. No problem, my wine rack hasn't held wine in years. There are now 2 paintings drying on my wine rack.
2. Afternoon naps after work, yeah not happening.
3. I am late for work because I overslept. Now I am late for work and I have been up for hours making lunch, trying to get myself ready and TRYING to persuade a 3 yr old to do any and everything!
4. My purse. I used to carry a cute little small one and now I have a piece of luggage complete with enough food to feed a small army.
5. I haven't slept through the night in years. There is no truth to sleeping like a baby. Babies don't sleep. Toddlers don't sleep. And preschoolers, yeah they don't sleep either.
6.I bought things for myself. Myself looks pretty overlooked. (just kidding, mostly!)
7. There is a whole world of television shows and music that I had no clue about. FYI, it doesn't include Ice Cube, Jill Scott or Alan Thicke.
8. Play dates and parties. Why is it that we don't whoop it up nearly as much as adults?
9. Slow walks. I get to just move slowly so much more now. I do like that- when I am not running late.
10. Impromptu flowers (picked for me by my little one), kisses (the great abundant kind) and laughter (new and amazing laughter).

I wouldn't change this life for the world. How has someone special in your life changed you?

Lucky, Lucky!!

So lucky for the hours spent all alone in my house. You can keep the rainbows and the pot of gold...my happiness came from chatting it up with my pal and a few moments on my sewing machine.

How did you celebrate St. Patty's?

3.14.2012

what a week!

between being a Momma, a wife and a working woman....I am beat!

Some real deal highlights would be all of the extra kisses from my snuggle bunny, son. The support of a great network of friends...I feel rather loved. Thank you, thank you! Baking yummy banana bread with the world's most ripe bananas. Spending some time with the windows open, letting winter out and welcoming in a new season. 81 degree days. Feels like Miami :) Crossing a few potential preschools off of the potential preschool list. Making use of my planner...cool, cool planner for next year here I come. Working really well with my hubby & allowing him to be my partner and my rock.  Removing some clutter. Feel freer already!! Chatting it up with my little cousin before she heads off to Haiti to do some dental work. She is amazing. Embracing a new hearty, smile with the same old joy.

Yes, this week has had some rough patches but the good outweighs the bad. Isn't that always what we are going for?!

Sunday Pinning

Surprise, surprise I am not talking about Pinterest either. I spent today hanging out with my son. A lot of Lego building, food prep and pretend play almost had this lady exhausted. I will admit I used an episode of Go Diego Go to recharge. Once I put the little prince to bed I decided to tackle some of the dreaded aspects of sewing. I did some cutting for a future quilt and I pinned a nice quilt sandwich. I have had this quilt top sewn for a long while and I finally got it all pinned up. I hope that this week I will get it all quilted because it is for wonderful friend of mine.

What awesome things have you managed to do this weekend?

Ten for Tuesday: Confessions

They say confessing is good for the soul. To channel Usher, these are my confessions....

1. I routinely eat desert after my little one has gone to bed.
2. And in that same arena, we go through an obnoxious amount of Hershey's syrup. Obnoxious.
3. I am green in so many ways but I leave my television on every night. It is the main reason I don't want an updated tv in our bedroom. A new tv would mean my hubby would put his foot down about this practice.
4. I don't like all of my students. There are 2 who really get on my nevers. It is definitely justified but it still is not my best self.
5. I judge you if you don't educate yourself or you don't know current and relevant information.
6. I sew so much more in my mind then I do in real life.
7. The fact that we can now get on Pinterest at work is like hitting the lottery. I know that others won't be able to relate.
8. I am too connected to stuff. I have to fight my tendency to sentimentalize every thing all the time.
9. At this moment I need a perm, a pedicure and a bunch of other beautification efforts. Gotta get to it pronto.
10. I wish I had a fairy. Really, I keep coming back to the fairy concept. Right now I need a pre-school fairy who will find me the perfect daycare for my little one.

What are your confessions?

Tagged and all that good stuff :)

I was tagged by Kristin over at at pritty things , thank you Kristin!  Here are the rules!

**You must post the rules {?!}
**Answer the 11 questions that the tagger posted for you & then create 11 questions to ask the people you’ve tagged
**Tag 11 people and link them in your post
**Let them know you have tagged them

1. Your favorite season?  Summer- no doubt about it. The sunshine, flip-flops and laid back lifestyle make me happy beyond measure.
2. Tea or coffee? Tea if it's iced...must be my Southern roots, ya'll :)
3. I think its fair to say that most (if not all) of us have slight obsessive compulsive tendencies, for instance my sister has to have the car radio or the television volume on an even number and my mum has to spin herself in the opposite direction after she turns around.  Do you have any and if so what are they? Well, let's see I like to eat all of one thing on my  plate before I eat the next thing. I prefer to eat all of the hot things first and then the cold things. I HAVE to take a shower if I have been outside for a while. I hate smelling like the outdoors. I think I should stop now before I sound like I have a problem.
4. Do you wash as you go when cooking or leave a big old mess to clean up at the end? I leave a big ole mess and then wish really hard that I had cleaned as I went along :0
5. Do you prefer savory or sweet foods? Wow, I thing I lean towards sweet. Savory is tasty but sweet is my weakness.
6. What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? I always wanted to be a teacher or a secretary for Mr. Davenport's office because he was really big time in my little mind.
7. What is your most favorite thing (inanimate object) in the whole world? Well this one is really hard. I love my wedding ring because it is the start of my family but my favorite thing that is all me is my stuffed bear Corduroy. He has been with me through many yrs and he has heard many a secret or two. Now my son plays with him and that makes me smile.
8. Something that really annoys you? I am pretty laid back but the thing that really annoys me is when my husband uses the same spoon to get jelly to get his peanut butter and he always leaves traces of jelly in the peanut butter. Can't stand it!
9. Are you a fan or reality shows? If so spill your favorite please! I could probably benefit from a reality tv intervention. My favorite right now is Khloe and Lamar...there is something cool about their relationship. They seem to really love each other and work on their marriage. Plus everyone doubted them since they met and married so quickly. I dig them.
10. If you could have a dinner party with three people (can be anyone present or past) who would you choose? I would have to have Michelle Obama (she is so dedicated to her family & she takes good care of herself), Sidney Poitier (he is just so intriguing & he has lived such an interesting life) and my paternal grandmother ( there were so many things I should have asked her and in my youth I was too foolish to know it)
11.  What is the first thing you do when you wake in the morning?
Turn on the tv. I want to see  what is going on in the world.

Here are the folks I am tagging.
Myriam of Non-mommy
Candice of Beeps n Rays
Cathy of cdc-quilting
Meghan of Teacher.Sewer.Knitter
Beth of Sewing for Sanity
Tara Celeste of The tiny hummingbird
McKenzie of Girl Loves Glam
Kimba of Here's My 2 Cents

And here are my questions.
1. If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?
2. If money were no object, where would you go on vacation?
3. What age would you go back to and why?
4. What is your favorite childhood book and why?
5. What is your go to wow 'em dinner?
6. Beach or mountains?
7. Who do you admire and why?
8. What defunct tv show do you miss?
9. Are you early, on time or late?
10. What was the reason for your last big ole smile?
11. What is one thing on your bucket list?

Party Girl

There was probably never a time in my life when I left one party and high tailed it to another party. My how things change. My son was invited to not one but two birthday parties today. He woke up at 6 am like usual to get his day going. UGH! By the time it was time for the first party it was really time for a nap. Any who he had a ball and I got to chat it up with the other moms. Speaking of chatting it up, can I just tell you how much I dislike this aspect of my son going to things? The conversation is always about napping and foods and developmental milestones. I would love to discover some really neat things about these ladies. See if there is some deeper connection than the fact that we are all watching our offspring like hawks. I don't want to come off mean but I really wish these events could be more of a relaxed social experience for me. If I have to spend my entire Saturday at little parties I would love to have more stimulating conversation. And don't get me wrong, I am guilty of not bringing up more interesting topics and really the parties are not the spot for a deeper conversation. It just seems strange to spend an entire day talking about swim clubs and the like. Is this what the preschool/school years are like? I may not have gone to big time parties but I will say there have been many days when I felt like an interesting person. Today was not that day. Strange ugh. Today I felt like my son's Momma and not in the way that makes me glow. Like that was all that I had to offer to the table. Is this the norm? Was/am I expecting too much. Have all of the cool women I have met in the blog world spoiled me? Who knows. I am just glad that there are not any party invites anytime soon :) I kid, I kid...mostly!
